SERVICES
01 New Roof and Deck Membranes
Flat roof and deck surfaces are exposed to weather extremes and need to be effectively waterproofed.
We are experienced installers of waterproof membrane systems for flat roof, deck and balcony areas in Auckland residential, industrial, and commercial buildings. These include apartment complexes, retirement villages, nursing homes, and schools.
We work promptly and efficiently alongside building or construction teams, or we can manage your whole roofing project ourselves.
We are approved applicators of all roof and deck systems and products we install. Most have 20-year warranties, and you’ll also be covered by our Complete Waterproofing 10-year warranty of workmanship.
We are also Auckland’s leading repairer of leaking roof membranes.
02 TPO membranes
A TPO membrane is a single-ply membrane with seams connected by heat-welding to give a clean, smooth finish. TPO combines the performance of thermo-plastics with elastomerics such as EPDM. It contains no toxic substances, so it’s an environmentally friendly option, and potable water can be collected off a TPO roof. The flexibility of a TPO membrane ensures water tightness for areas of a roof vulnerable to leaks, such as aircon units, awkward corners, and pipe penetrations.
Rain Shield specializes in commercial construction work but boasts a wide portfolio covering also industrial and residential projects.
03 Vinyl Membrane
Vinyl Membrane is a robust, aesthetically pleasing waterproofing solution originally developed for boat deck in the 1980s. This versatile, reinforced PVC membrane is now widely used for various applications, particularly in high-traffic and exposed areas. Here’s a breakdown of its key features and benefits:
Key Features:
Durability: Designed to withstand harsh marine environments, Vinyl Membrane is exceptionally tough and durable, making it suitable for high-traffic areas and outdoor applications.
Textured Surface: The membrane features a textured finish that enhances underfoot grip, providing safety and preventing slips in high-traffic zones such as walkways and balconies.
Flexibility: The PVC membrane is flexible, allowing it to conform to various surfaces and accommodate structural movements without compromising its waterproofing effectiveness.
Heat-Weldable Seams: The heat-weldable seam technology creates a seamless, watertight barrier, eliminating potential leak points and ensuring superior waterproofing performance.
Aesthetic Appeal: Available in a range of colors and textures, Vinyl Membrane enhances the visual appeal of decks and balconies while providing a functional waterproofing solution.
04 Liquid Membrane
Liquid membrane systems can be applied as a waterproofing layer to almost any existing roof or deck surface, including concrete and plywood, They are easy to apply, and tolerate water pooling. A liquid membrane can be used to extend the life of your flat roof.
05 Torch-on membrane
The service of applying torch-on waterproofing membrane involves effectively protecting surfaces against water infiltration. The torch-on membrane is made of modified bitumen which is heated during application using a torch, melting and adhering firmly to the surface. This creates a resilient and flexible barrier that prevents water passage, ensuring durability and protection for roofs, decks, and other structures against moisture damage.
06 Belowground
The belowground membrane system is specifically designed for waterproofing below-grade structures, such as basements and foundations, where protection against groundwater is critical. These membranes are typically made from materials like modified bitumen, PVC, or EPDM (ethylene propylene diene terpolymer), chosen for their durability and ability to withstand soil conditions and hydrostatic pressure.
The installation process involves carefully preparing the substrate, applying adhesive or heat to bond the membrane securely to the concrete or masonry surfaces, and ensuring overlaps and seams are properly sealed to prevent water ingress. Some systems also include protection boards or drainage mats to enhance performance and durability.
By forming a continuous barrier between the structure and surrounding soil, belowground membranes effectively prevent water penetration, reducing the risk of moisture-related damage and maintaining a dry and habitable environment inside buildings. These membranes are essential for ensuring long-term structural integrity and minimizing maintenance costs associated with water damage below ground level.
